The Amor Principle
(in the natal chart)

Amor is an Asteroid (#1221, discovered in 1932 by Belgian astronomer Eugène Delporte) and is part of the larger belt of so-called Amor Asteroids.

Amor was the Roman god of love, also known as Cupid, but Cupid too exists separately as an Asteroid.

Amor stands beside the Greek god of love, Eros, making that some astrologers give both asteroids the same meaning.

Our research to find out its particular meaning in the natal horoscope is inconclusive so far.

Perhaps, it has more value in synastry (the chart comparison between people) and we will certainly take a closer look at this in the future.

We have been taking a look at Amor because we found quite some different opinions about the meaning of Amor so that we wanted to look at it ourselves.

Love has many faces and it is told that Amor reflects the more unconditional side of it.

It's told that Amor is less physical, less erotic and more caring.

Hence, different astrologers suggest that Amor represents concerning and caring love, for anyone, in an unpersonal manner.

Amor is more giving, more extravert in that way.

However, Martha Lang-Wescott, the renown astrologer specialized in the Asteroids, has a more differentiated view about Amor.

According to her, Amor shows what keeps one from living up to the own ideals and expectations of what "real" love is.

It's part of what you substitute for love and what constitutes role models, experience and examples of "true, perfect and ideal Love."

It might point to the conditions that Amor has set on loving.

She uses keywords like "boundary issues" and the conditions one places on unconditional love.

Without knowing detailed biographies of people, it's not always easy to find out how to know what delineations really apply though.

Hence, researching this Asteroid in the natal horoscope certainly needs time.

Finding the position of Amor in the horoscope:

When you go to the Astrodienst AG web site,

1. click on 'Horoscopes' in the top navigation bar and scroll a bit down.
   
   
2. Click on the 'Extended Chart selection' in the left column.
   
   
3. Log in, or make a (free) account and/or type your birth details where it says at the top.
   
   
4. Scroll down the page and at the bottom of the page there is a link that reads 'Asteroid name/number list with 25031 names.'
   
   Click on that link and then click on the letter A of the alphabet, then scroll down the list to look for Amor (Asteroid #1221)
   
   
5. Check the box in front of the Asteroid to include this Asteroid Amor in the horoscope.
   
   
6. Click the green button 'show the chart' above the list and the Asteroid Amor should be incorporated in the horoscope you previously selected.
